FAQ

Who can apply?: Any undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited university/college in the U.S. or Canada, preferably studying for a degree in computer science, engineering, or mathematics. Preference will be given to students with at least one semester of classes remaining after summer 2011.
When can I apply?: Applications are accepted on a rolling basis starting January 1, 2012. We will begin contacting semi-finalists after January 1, 2012. The final deadline for submissions is 11:59PM EST on February 1, 2012.
What is required in the application?: Basic information about you, your educational and career goals and achievements, and your resumé.
What happens if my application is accepted?: After all of the applications have been reviewed, up to 25 semi-finalists will be selected. These semi-finalists will travel to New York City on February 24-25, 2012 to meet and interview with NYC startups participating in the program. Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed and housing will be provided.
What happens if I do well with the interviews in New York?: If a match and an offer is made, then the student and the startup will arrange their own terms of summer employment, including the exact dates of the internship during the summer. Internship pay is fixed for all companies participating in the program. The student then becomes a NYC Turing Fellow.
What does it mean to be a NYC Turing Fellow?: A NYC Turing Fellow earns (1) a paid summer internship with a leading NYC startup, (2) access to a summer program consisting of educational, networking, and mentorship activities, and (3) a $5,000 (USD) fellowship prize upon completion of the summer internship.
Will housing be provided?: Housing options will be made available to NYC Turing Fellows, but Fellows are responsible for housing costs, which will should be coverable by the income provided during their internship.
Are summer internships guaranteed?: No. Employment will be negotiated between the NYC Turing semi-finalists and the participating startups.
What about the $5,000 fellowship prize?: Only Fellows who complete their summer internship will receive the fellowship prize.
